Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Richard spent his formative years at Tranquillity Camp as a camper, CIT, Counselor and Head Counselor. Beyond his camper days, he remained actively involved with camp, serving as a frequent volunteer and a member of the Board of Directors of the “Tranquillity Alumni”. An alumnus of Long Island University, and veteran of the US Air Force, Richard transitioned from a business career to rejoin Tranquillity in 1996. Taking on the role of Executive Director, he has blended the camp’s cherished traditions and the invaluable lessons he learned as a camper and counselor with a forward-looking approach. Recognizing the evolving needs and desires of this generation, Richard has led Tranquillity into the 21st century, understanding the importance of adapting the camp experience to reflect contemporary values.

Richard encourages children to embrace the fundamental elements of play, nature, friendly competition and socialization. Tranquillity’s outstanding program serves as an opportunity for personal growth, nurturing a sense of responsibility and problem-solving skills, all without relying on electronic devices. Each camper is seen as an individual, with Richard prioritizing their safety, happiness, and overall well-being. 

Sherrie possesses a natural talent for connecting with people, a quality that shines in her passion for Tranquillity Camp. With a diverse background that includes figure skating, skiing, and corporate experience, she has channeled her energy, perseverance, and people skills towards creating cherished memories for both campers and staff. Beyond her numerous accomplishments, Sherrie considers her role as a mother and grandmother to be her most significant achievement.

Married to the love of her life, Executive Director Richard Lerner, Sherrie and is admired and respected by the Tranquillity Family. Throughout the summer, she focuses on personally connecting with each camper and counselor, leading regular group meetings and actively participating in daily activities. In the off-season, Sherrie continues to build relationships with existing and new Tranquillity families, taking the time to know each individual. Her top priority is always ensuring the children’s happiness, fostering their friendships, and taking every opportunity to make their Tranquillity experience truly unforgettable.

With a lifelong connection to the camp, Ira’s journey began as a young camper, and over the years, he has blossomed into a dedicated camp director. Alongside his supportive wife, Becky, and their two adventurous kids, Tyler and Emily, Ira brings a wealth of experience and a passion for creating unforgettable summer memories.
